This species is well known for its large root system, which stores water during the dry season. Along with its hard, waxy leaves, these roots make it will adapted to dry climates, although it's natural habitat is humid year round.

The species pictures above is Paphiopedilum godefroyae var. leucochilum, considered by many to be a distinct species called Paph. leucochilum.
